Cottage in Ishigaki Island
A spiral staircase and a banister made of Corten Steel

Location: Okinawa

Completed Exterior Appearance (Banisters in terraces in the
2nd floor and the 3rd floor)

a Completed Experior spiral staircase

Concept:
Corten Steel has been used as a material for a cottage in Ishigaki island because it doesn’t spoil the sight of the beautiful Ishigaki island in Okinawa. Besides, the texture suits for the environment. In order to make the expansive space where fits in the nature, we used 13φ round bars as primary member.

Style:
A Spiral Staircase, Terrace Stairs
Corten Steel: 13φ round bar with a sandblasted finish without painting

Features:
There is neither any support posts nor open stringers. Therefore, round bars are jointed together on the angle by weld which sustains stair treads. There is a sense of unity among the spiral staircase, the terraces in the 2nd floor and the 3rd floor because these are made with the same design.

Moreover, taking maintenance-free into consideration, Corten Steel is appropriate material for a cottage.
