リアス・アーク美術館

Features:
The museum looks unique because the building is inclined from the perpendicular and the curved surfaces are used for the museum. There is a big hollow in the part of thirty-centimeter-thick steel plate. It looks as if the power of the ark from the mountain got through the museum toward the sea. The curved surface was created with just fire and water that is one of the shipbuilding technologies.

Concept:
In the age of geographical discovery, a Spanish man touched at the Rias (deeply-indented coastline) port town. He wrote down that the Rias port is as beautiful as the port in Catalonia in his hometown. In addition, he wrote that the local people are nice and warm-hearted. He described that there were three trees about half way up the mountain, which guided him to the Rias port. The Rias Ark Museum of Art, which museum shows the local culture and history, was built in the high place because people can see the whole view of the Rias port town and it works as a directing post. In addition, leads local people to promotion of culture.

Style:
The concrete is used mainly and the steel frames are used for a part of the museum as a basic structure. In addition, we painted a wide area with the traditional Japanese plaster that is called 'Shikkui.' The external cladding was made of aluminum alloy in order to make it look like an airborne object.
